Sulzer Medica U.S. Settlement Postponed By Two Months
A settlement under discussion between Sulzer Medica and patients affected by the
group's faulty hip and knee joints will be postponed for two months. U.S.
district court Judge Kathleen O'Malley granted patients more time to decide
whether to accept Sulzer's proposals or to participate in a class action suit
against the group. Approximately 3,000 patients have filed lawsuits in
connection with defective hip and knee transplants.
The Court extended the period to May 14, when the final fairness hearing will commence. Sulzer previously stated that its U.S. unit could file for bankruptcy if a satisfactory settlement is not reached with the plaintiffs.
