Diamond McCarthy Taylor & Finley Adds Houston Bankruptcy Group

(Houston) – Diamond McCarthy Taylor & Finley, LLP, announces the addition of Houston bankruptcy lawyer Kyung S. Lee as a partner, effective November 15, 2001.

Mr. Lee, formerly a member of Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson & Hand and the head of its Houston bankruptcy section, is joined by associates David Rabinowitz, Christopher Johnson, and Jason Rudd, and Of Counsel Daniel Patchin and Wendy K. Laubach.

“We are thrilled to have a group of lawyers of such high caliber make their home at Diamond McCarthy,” says Allan Diamond, head of Diamond McCarthy’s Houston office. “This is an exciting development for our clients and, we hope, for Kyung’s clients as well.”

Mr. Lee said his group joined Diamond McCarthy because their corporate reorganization/debt restructuring practice complemented Diamond McCarthy’s own bankruptcy and insolvency litigation specialties.

“In any insolvency matter, you’re constantly asking ‘who damaged this company?’” Mr. Lee says. “Diamond McCarthy is best known for handling ‘who killed the company’ investigations, and that expertise is crucial in the insolvency and near-insolvency contexts.”

Mr. Lee has served as debtor's counsel for companies in the airline, oil and gas, communications, health care, mortgage lending and convenience store industries. He has also represented lenders, creditors, and investors involved in workouts and Chapter 11 reorganizations, and served as litigation counsel for debtors and trustees.

Diamond McCarthy is a litigation/bankruptcy boutique that specializes in “who killed the company” litigation.  It typically is engaged to determine why a corporation experienced financial difficulty; whether that difficulty was the result of improper or illegal activity (and, if so, who should be held responsible for the loss); and to seek damages from the persons responsible.

Founded in March 2000 after its founders left Dallas-based Hughes & Luce, Diamond McCarthy has more than tripled in size to its present 28 lawyers. Though based in Dallas, Houston and Austin, the firm currently is handling matters in California, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Canada, Mexico, and England, as well as Texas.
